My husband has been after me for months to get a new computer. I limped along with it not willing to give it up to land fill. Along comes this book and after reading it cover to cover, I went to some of the suggested websites and downloaded free software to clean it up. It worked like a charm and now my computer is running as fast as the day I bought it. I am so tired of shelling out my hard earned dollars to call in IT techs or taking it to a shop. And then I have to reload files and software. What a pain. I intend to read this book again. I cannot thank the author enough for writing an easy to read book. He explains everything in simple to understand terms.Product details

This is awesome book for those who know computers and those who don't. It is always nice to read a book that you walk away and say that really was a good book to read and learn something while reading it. I recommend this book to everyone who sit behind a desk and look at a computer all day, it would cut back on some of the help desk calls and save user time by fixing there on small problems.

Very good book explaining various thing that an average computer user needs in navigating things that come up using a computer. Simple enough that a technophobe can understand without the feeling of being "Talked down to". I recommend this book as a resource to go to possibly saving a trip to a computer repair center.
The author did a great job of taking all that IT jargon and putting it into easily understood normal-people-speak. As a young professional, I have sometimes had a rough time with the language barrier between the very nice IT people I come across and myself (I speak Legalese). This book has helped me to understand their language.
There are also loads of practical tips offered in this book. I now know how to keep my computer safe, troubleshoot problems that occur, and make it run faster. The author offers websites and tools that he uses to accomplish these tasks, tells you how to accomplish them easily, and makes you laugh while teaching you.
An all-around GREAT first book, Mr. Cutrer!
This is an excellent read and or reference book. Cutrer delivers vital technological information, tips and resources clearly and succinctly. About half way through I decided the book would become my go to reference, but as I neared the end it became clear I could best serve myself by actually learning 85-90 % of the easy to comprehend information. Starting with a "To Do" list I created in the notes section of my version (made up of free-user friendly sites found in the book) I will immediately start reinforcing what I learned in this book to build better relations with my technology. Thanks Wiltz!
I thought this book would help older people who don't know the basics of computer use so can't be contacted by email or through facebook. I was disappointed in that expectation. This book is very informative and it is very good as a how-To book for those already at home with computers but want greater mastery of what has become such an indispensable part of our lives. I appreciated the non-Technical and easy to understand tips, the suggested sites and applications, and the author's sense of humor.
The title had me a little thrown, but I see where he's coming from. This is a great book as it aims to get the user involved with this technology. If you are THAT person who want to USE a computer, but find that every time you touch one it breaks of feel that it is more trouble than its worth then this book is for you. While it is a fun read there are enough tips and tricks that you could easily save yourself 20-fold in repair costs and you could have the satisfaction of managing a DIY fix not to mention saving yourself the frustration of being without a computer while it is being repaired. Don't throw it, get to know it!
